Please take some time to explore this section and familiarize yourself with the information available. We’re glad you’re part of LCB! Thank you for your commitment, participation, and contribution to our band community.

When We Rehearse

Our concert season runs from September through May.

Rehearsals take place on Tuesday nights from 7:15 PM - 9:30 PM.

Most members arrive 15-20 minutes early to set up and warm up before rehearsal begins promptly at 7:15. There is a 10-15 minute break in the middle of rehearsal.

Where we rehearse

Rehearsals from September - December, and April - June take place at A.B. Lucas Secondary School (656 Tennent Avenue, London).

Parking is available at the back of the school on the north side. There is an entrance door near the cafeteria on the right. Enter the doors, take the stairs on your immediate left. At the top of the stairs, turn right through the set of doors, and the stage entrance will be on your immediate right.

Rehearsals from January-March take place at Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School. (125 Sherwood Forest Square, London).

There's plenty of parking behind the school.  Enter through the back entrance, located on the south side of the building (look for the awning over the doors.) The auditorium is very close to this entrance, on the first floor, on your left.

Membership Fees

As a not-for-profit, the London Concert Band relies primarily on membership dues, as well as concert proceeds, to support its operations and activities. Membership dues are reviewed annually and may be adjusted to reflect increases in operating expenses. This will be communicated out to the band in early September. All dues need to be remitted to Lise Maclean (Treasurer) before the first concert.

Dues for 2026 are $130 for regular members and $65 for students.

Payments can be made via e-transfer (to treasurer@londonconcertband.ca), cash, cheque, or debit.

If you are experiencing financial hardship, please communicate with Lise Maclean or another board member, in confidence, to see if alternate arrangements can be made.

Member Guidelines

  1. Be punctual. Arrive early, be ready to play at 7:15 sharp, and come back from break ready to play.

  2. If you can avoid it, please do not use your phone during rehearsal. It is distracting to those around you.

  3. Please don’t talk during practice, especially when the conductor is speaking or working on a section with others. If you must talk about your music with someone else, please keep it as quiet as you can or discuss it at break.

  4. Practice at home. Practicing weekly at home is an essential part of being in a successful concert band. Come to rehearsal prepared so we can make music together!

  5. LCB is a sent-free zone. Please avoid wearing perfumes, colognes, or scented body products. We do have members with very sensitive allergies.

  6. Be kind, encouraging, and supportive. A positive attitude and teamwork make those magic moments on stage possible. We try to lean into our motto of ‘Making music with heart and humour’ as much as we can.

Annual General Meeting

The London Concert Band is governed by a band-elected Board of Directors. As volunteer members, Board members play an important role in the success of the Band. The Board has significant legal and ethical responsibilities to LCB members and our community, and works hard to provide leadership and support the growth and development of the band. The Board has a collective responsibility to run the affairs of the London Concert Band in accordance with the Not for Profit Corporations Act (NFP) and the bylaws of the London Concert Band.

All LCB members get to be included in our Annual General Meeting, which happens once a year during a rehearsal in September. The Board will share information about the upcoming year, review our operating budgets, and all LCB members will vote on important matters, including electing new board members.

We highly encourage all members to consider joining the Board of Directors. It is a great way to get involved and shape the future of the London Concert Band.

Concert Dress and Etiquette

Concert attire consists of black, long-sleeved collared shirts or blouses, black dress pants or skirts, black socks or stockings, and black dress shoes. It is recommended that if you bring a water bottle on stage, that it should also be black, so as not to be distracting.

Other tips:

  • Sit straight with your feet flat on the floor

  • If possible, avoid tapping your foot or leg to keep beat. We recommend tapping your toe inside your shoe, if needed.

  • When the conductor asks you to stand for audience applause, please do so confidently. Soloists are usually asked to stand first before the rest of the band.

  • When the conductor is announced to the podium, all LCB members will stand (if possible) to acknowledge them.

  • During intermission, please do not play your instrument.

  • Have fun! This is what we are here for!

Socials

Being part of LCB is about more than making music. It’s about building community, forming friendships, and enjoying the people we make music with. Our socials are a great opportunity to unwind, grab a beverage or snack, and get to know your fellow bandmates outside of rehearsal.

Weekly socials take place every Tuesday after rehearsal. During the break, an announcement will let you know where everyone is heading that evening.

Throughout the year, we also host a celebratory social after each concert, an end-of-year gathering, and summer socials. Details for these events will be shared in advance so you can plan to join us.

All socials are completely optional, but they’re a fun and relaxed way to connect with your fellow musicians, build friendships, and feel even more at home in the LCB community. We hope you’ll join us!
